What is emergency dental care?

Emergency dentists treat mouth and dental injuries that require immediate attention. Dental emergencies are typically any situation in which you need to save a broken or knocked-out tooth. Are you in need of emergency dental care?

It's never a bad idea to find emergency dental care if you're concerned about a severe oral injury or condition for yourself or a member of your family. These types of situations are generally considered dental emergencies:

• Severe tooth or mouth pain
• Bleeding inside your mouth from your gums, cheeks, or tongue
• An injury to your mouth or face

Chipping a tooth in and of itself doesn't always warrant emergency dental care. What should I do when my tooth is knocked-out?

A knocked-out tooth is no laughing matter. It's one of the most severe dental emergencies. If you don’t receive immediate dental care, you may be at risk of losing the tooth. Do your best to rinse your mouth and the damaged tooth. Rinse your mouth and tooth with lukewarm water. Try to avoid touching the tooth's roots.

Gently handle the tooth by the crown (top) as you rinse it. If you can, hold the cleaned tooth by the crown and reinsert it into the empty socket. Try to gently bite down to keep your tooth in place until you can get to Dental Artistry of Walnut Creek. Call the office right away. Or, have a family member or friend call to let the staff know you're on your way.
